Baking- A Passion and Much More

TOO CUTE TO EAT

TOO CUTE TO EAT

Many things in life change after marriage, then another barrage of changes happen when you are blessed with kids and that too two naughtiest boys. Cynthia Solomon got married and then it’s been 7 years now but when she turns back in time to see, it feels like yesterday.

AREN'T YOU FEELING HUNGRY?

AREN’T YOU FEELING HUNGRY?

She is a very artistic person and can surely give the big painters a run for their money but to help me out she decided to share one more talent that she has which is both soothing to the eye and sumptuous to the tongue; baking.

SIMPLY AWESOME

SIMPLY AWESOME

Most of our television time goes watching master chef and watch them prepare all those awesome deserts and food; turns out that she is our very own master baker. A look at her cakes and then I was speechless. Initially I wanted to share only a few pictures with you guys, then couldn’t stop myself and decided to go with all those pictures that I could lay my hands on.

BEFORE THE CAKE ATTACK

BEFORE THE CAKE ATTACK

Now that you have seen a few of the cakes and I can bet you are hungry and want to take a bite, let me tell you more about her. She bakes her cakes after 12 in the night. This is the only time when she can work with a little piece and quiet and be sure that none of the pieces of the cake have been polished off by all of us who love her cakes.

BRIGHT, LIGHT AND SUCH A DELIGHT

BRIGHT, LIGHT AND SUCH A DELIGHT

With the home secured to keep, rats, cats and me at bay, she heads to her bedroom. One glance to make sure that hubby is in deep sleep and then she tucks her boys in and then come out her baker’s hat and apron. The baking carries on depending upon the number of cakes she needs to bake. Till 2 am or 3 is a common occurrence.

ANOTHER ANGLE TO TEMPT YOU ALL

ANOTHER ANGLE TO TEMPT YOU ALL

Most of the recipes for the cakes are her own but inspiration has many names and two such in her life are Nigella Lawson and Rachel Allen. The icing is where a lot happens, hubby chips in his ideas and her enthusiastic kids have their own demands and then a surfing the net for some more ideas and voila she has a crystal clear picture in her mind and then just an hour before the event she does the icing.

IF YOU ARE A CHOCOHOLIC, DON’T MISS THIS ONE

Now, coming to the very important part; I jumped at her asking her if she would take baking orders. I have been put on hold and so all of you guys too will have to wait for a few more years. She is keen on attending at least one bakery class for baking and icing before she thinks about this field. Going to classes is going to be possible for this stay at home mom only when her younger one starts full time school.

Till then it’s waiting for you and me and baking time for her. For those of you who don’t know Cynthia Solomon is; she is my elder sister, my friend, my philosopher, my guide, my get me back on track friend, my set me straight friend, my completely pamper me and spoil me friend, the one who has known from the time I was a little brat and stood by me through thick and thin.

Seriously I need a lot of answers from Cynthia

    1. What oven are you using?
    2. Can you bake cakes like these in a microwave oven?
    3. Why do you do the icing an hour before the event?
    4. What happens if I put the cake in the refrigerator?
    5. Can you take classes? I will bring few more of my friends and join.

Athena Visheshta, writing about cakes is not enough, share some of it with us your readers.

    • thanks a lot evena..
its a very old phillips grill-baking oven.
am sure the cakes can be baked in microwave too but i don’t.. each oven has different configuration and the cakes baked in a microwave gets dried up real fast.. it doesn’t stay moist and soft for a longer time.
with two naughty kids at home i always do the icing just before the event when my hubby’s around.. and the icing stays fresh.
i usually keep the cake in the refrigerator several times during icing.. chennai temperature is quite high and the icing starts melting.
i would love to teach what i’ve learnt but my children are too young.. maybe i’ll work it out with my hubby and will let you know evana..
