Technology today has revolutionized the learning process. Thanks to internet and search engines information right from basic to advanced can be obtained by a click of a button in any form such as text, audio, video and even interactive virtual platforms. Students have access to so much information and learning tools today, that slowly these are taking precedence over standard text books and school curriculum and of course the question arises as to “Do we need our good old teachers and their teaching methods anymore”?
For those of you who are doubtful let me tell you that we definitely still need our teachers and here are the reasons why.
- EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND PRESENTATION OF KNOWLEDGE
Little children love imitating their teachers in games as they are in awe of them because teachers make even difficult things easy to understand. The same children who are very comfortable communicating in the virtual world are tongue tied in the real world and have no idea how to express their knowledge and thoughts face to face. It is by observing a teacher and interacting personally that they acquire these skills which are very necessary in learning process.
- STRUCTURAL LEARNING
Internet may be an ocean of information but BASIC FUNDAMENTAL GROUNDING OF CONCEPTS can be taught only by a teacher. As we all know one cannot move to Z without starting from A, B, C. The teacher knows the finer nuances of teaching a concept and the manner in which it should be understood. Only a teacher can identify the learning and understanding ability of every student and accordingly explain.
- BOUNDARIES OF LEARNING
Only a teacher can make a child realize the difference between unlimited information and required information. Internet is limitless and teacher being a human may not know everything but definitely knows what and how much a student needs to know at every stage.
- SECOND PARENT FOR THE CHILD
After home majority of a child’s time is spent at school and that is why a teacher besides teaching makes all effort to connect with every student. It is mostly a teacher who identifies problems like lisping and stammering in young children and behavioral issues in adolescents. Not only identifying they care and help to solve these problems.
- LESSONS OF LIFE ARE TAUGHT BY A TEACHER AND NOT INTERNET
A teacher plays a great role in molding a child’s character by teaching good habits, cultivating manners and inculcating discipline.
- MUCH NEEDED HUMAN TOUCH
Only a teacher can pat us when we perform well, scold us when are wrong, pull us up when we are down, motivate us, cheer us during competitions and always be present when we need them.
Teachers are the backbone of every school and play an integral part in a student’s life. Internet with its many uses has become an inseperable part in the field of education. But, education is not just about being literate and accumulating information. It is about how we use this knowledge effectively at the right place, to open our minds about right and wrong and make ourselves useful to society and for all this WE NEED OUR TEACHERS MORE THAN INTERNET.
Wishing our teachers a very Happy Teachers Day.
Its not just today but our teachers need to be valued every day of our lives. To catch more on teachers in different fields try Oprah- The first lady when it comes to media and Helen Keller – The one who paved the way to light.
