If most women understand the profound meaning of this quote they can beat the deadly malaise “Depression” which slowly yet steadily crawls into their system. They are not even aware that they are suffering from depression as they have associated these phases of feeling blue with reasons like pre natal, post natal, family stress, hormonal change etc. What they fail to realize is that if they continue to dismiss these phases it slowly accumulates and leads to permanent depression. Physical ailments can be cured for a healthy body but this is futile if the mind is not healthy.
Some symptoms of depression are obsessive cleaning, excess T.V , over eating, random shopping etc. which women indulge in to overcome the feeling. These are not permanent solutions and the time has come for these women to get out of denial mode and make their life more fulfilling.
A few cases I believe which lead to depression are
CASE 1 : COMPROMISING ON SELF IDENTITY/INDIVIDUALITY
Women lead their lives multifariously as a daughter, wife, daughter in law, mother etc. and in the process alter their tastes ,interests, dressing style and even character that one fine day they do not recognize themselves anymore.
SOLUTION: It is never too late to rediscover your true self which will do wonders and make sure others treat you as an individual and respect your tastes, style of working and character.
CASE 2: LACK OF APPRECIATION
No matter how much you slog people simply take it for granted and some even like to find faults constantly.
SOLUTION: Simply hand over the mantle to your folks to experience first hand what you do day in and day out. A family must learn to appreciate the efforts and contribution of the lady of the house.
CASE 3: FINANCIAL DEPENDENCE
Nothing can be more depressing when a woman’s spending is crippled or her expenses accounted for.
SOLUTION: Whether you are on a career break or wish to start fresh there are various options available today like work from home, flexible hours, tuition etc. where you can earn your own money without neglecting family duties. It gives you a sense of freedom and self respect.
CASE 4: IDLE MIND AND IDLE TIME
Both can be dangerous as one can become a hub of negativity and the other frittered away unproductively.
SOLUTION: It is time to hone your skills and plan your time. There is no age bar to stop learning and a plethora of opportunities are there in form of online, distance, part time programs to keep your mind occupied. Pursuing a hobby, developing reading habit, voluntary service etc. may be other options. A little social life outside family with friends adds to happiness quotient.
CASE 5 : EMOTIONAL INSECURITY
Emotional well-being is paramount and women being sentimental by nature tend to feel neglected. In most cases it happens unintentionally by the family members and hence COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY. A problem shared is a problem halved so its better to be open with your folks. Family members should also be supportive during such emotional crisis and should not hesitate to display their affection.
Well these are just a few cases but any situation can be overcome when a woman musters enough courage and self-belief and say “BYE TO BLUES, HI TO A NEW YOU”
